Simple Past Person Bingo — “Find Someone Who…”

Having highly-controlled practice time is a great way to get students used to using the target language.  In this activity, students practice making yes/no simple past questions using the words in the boxes.

Students should formulate and ask their classmates yes/no simple past questions using the verb phrases listed in the boxes.  For example, the question for the “go shopping yesterday” box would be  “Did you go shopping yesterday?”

If their classmate replies “Yes, I did.  I went shopping yesterday,” the student can write their classmate’s name in the box.  If their classmate replies “No, I didn’t go shopping yesterday,” the student should ask another question.  Encourage students to use full answers rather than a simple “yes” or “no.”

Depending on your class size, you can require students to fill out only a few of the boxes (for example, 4-in-a-row or double rows) or the entire paper.  If you have many students, you can allow each student’s name to appear only once on the paper. For smaller classes, each student can be the answer for two or more questions.
